What to Look For When Buying a New Hot Tub. What Surface is the New Hot Tub Going On?

Now that you've decided where you're going to put your new hot tub, what surface are you going to be placing it onto? This is important, as filled hot tubs can weigh up to over 5000 pounds. Wooden decks and concrete patios are the most popular places to put hot tubs. These are great spots to put a hot tub as long as they are level and at least as large, dimension-wise, as the tub itself. Wooden decks may need additional support if they weren't specifically built to accommodate the weight of the tub. A deck contractor should have no problem looking at your deck and letting you know if it needs more support. Concrete pads next to the house are pitched a little away from the home to prevent water buildup next to the house. Every once in a while, the pad is pitched way too much to properly support a hot tub. These pads will have to be corrected before putting a hot tub on them.
If you don't have a current spot ready, paver pads are a very economical way to create a place to put your new hot tub, as long as the pad is level and big enough. Some folks even create a large, flat area in the yard and then put crush and run. That will also do the trick too. Grass or dirt are NOT good enough for supporting a hot tub.
